There seems to be an unspoken and yet prevalent notion that God cannot or does not move in our contemporary society and among modern day churches…at least not in any mighty way. I am not talking about some “charismatic” drama or “slick religious maneuver.” I am talking a true “breath of God” that results in souls being saved, baptized, and a church being revived to carry out the Great Commission.
Please know that the following report is totally for the glory of God. It is certainly not about me nor is it about our staff and congregation…God simply allowed us to be used by Him.
We had designated Sunday, November 23, 2008 (the Sunday before Thanksgiving) as “Harvest Sunday.” We promoted and encouraged our people to bring in their unsaved and unchurched friends, family and neighbors. Our people responded and we had a full house for the morning worship service. Evangelist, Dr. Bailey Smith was our guest speaker and he brought a simple and yet powerful salvation message. The presence and power of God was so real that each of us sat in awe as He moved through the congregation.
When the invitation was given, 59 teens and adults came forward to receive Jesus Christ as Savior. The following Sunday night I had the privilege of baptizing 46 in one service. We have baptized and had professions of faith every Sunday since.
I am convinced that God still desires to save souls and that He can still move in an incredible way in Bible-preaching, fundamental Baptist churches. There are still lost people all around us, souls for whom Jesus died. We simply must pray hard, consistently encourage our people to reach out, and then allow God to work.
Straight Ahead!
